The Corner of the Internet
In the great hall of his mind, he sat and pondered the many paths his life might take. He had not been blessed with the education of the nobles, but amongst his peers he had found a sense of camaraderie, of shared purpose. Together they had dreamed of creating things of beauty and value, and sharing them with the world.
But as the years passed, he lost touch with those classmates, and their paths diverged. He often wondered what had become of them, and whether they had achieved their dreams. But the social media platforms he loathed offered only glimpses, shallow and unsatisfying.
One day, he stumbled upon the website of an old friend, and was struck by the authenticity of their words. This, he thought, was the way things should be. Personal sites, blogs, a place to share one’s thoughts and creations without the demands of the great companies that sought only to profit from their attention.
And so he resolved to follow in his friend’s footsteps, to create his own little corner of the internet, a place where he could speak his mind and share his work without fear or favor. He knew not what he would say, or whether anyone would listen. But it mattered not. For this was his kingdom, and he would be its king.
